Three Mounties sustained non-life-threatening injuries in a collision with a logging truck that lost its cargo near Lake Cowichan.

Officers from the Community-Industry Response Group were heading south on Pacific Marine Road just after noon. 8 Tuesday.

Police say as they turned a corner at the 22-mile mark from Mesachie, part of a logging truck heading north hit a police vehicle, causing it to lose its load before hitting another police vehicle.

The three injured Mounties were transported to a local hospital for an assessment.

A collision analyst and commercial vehicle safety inspector were dispatched to the scene to conduct an investigation under the Motor Vehicles Act.

The part of the forest road where the collision occurred was closed in both directions for “indefinite periods of time,” police said, and it was expected to be reopened once the investigation was completed.

Travelers are asked to use an alternative route in the meantime.
