PORTLAND, Ore. (KPTV) – A pedestrian died at the scene after being pinned between a truck and a large tree in northwest Portland on Monday.
According to PPB, the accident happened shortly after noon. 1pm on Block 300 on Northwest 23rd Avenue, near Everett Street.
When officers arrived, they saw AMR medics performing CPR on a person on the sidewalk and began helping, according to the PPB. Several officers arrived shortly after and began contacting witnesses and establishing a crime scene to acknowledge the seriousness of the situation.
PPB revealed on Tuesday that the driver and the pedestrian were colleagues, and the pedestrian helped the driver park their work truck. While the driver maneuvered the truck, their colleague was squeezed between the rear of the truck and a large tree.
A passing AMR ambulance saw the incident and was able to be on the scene immediately, while officers from Central Precinct showed up at the scene shortly after. While doctors and officers provided medical care, the pedestrian died of their injuries.
Several other streets in northwest Portland were closed while police conducted their investigation, and drivers were asked to avoid the area.
