Kamahl spoke about the ‘secret addiction’ that cost him his 55-year marriage during an all-inclusive interview with A Current Affair on Thursday.

The 87-year-old singer revealed that a social media addiction caused his wife Sahodra to leave him.

“I was isolated with my computer,” he admitted, revealing that he would spend up to five hours a day on social media.

He added: ‘I am engrossed in politics. I tweet from morning to night and I pay a terrible price for it. ‘

Kamahl also revealed that his wife was struggling to come to terms with his fame and the fact that he would spend up to six months a year away from home.

“I think she was sick and tired and frustrated,” he said of his wife’s decision to walk away from their marriage.

He spoke of their relationship, adding: ‘Ours was created in heaven, but the weather changed.’

But Kamahl insisted he had no enmity towards his wife, saying “she is the saint, I am the sinner”.

The Hey Hey It’s Saturday star shared the sad news of the split on Monday, telling New Idea that he prays that the breach is ‘only temporary’.

“I was isolated with my computer,” he admitted, revealing that he would spend up to five hours a day on social media

‘She really is the wind under my wings. I now realize that I was probably not the most attentive man. Fame can do that – it can distract you from what really matters, “he said.

“But I keep everything cross-cutting, we can work through this hard piece as she really is my everything,” he added.

The Malaysian-born star – whose real name is Kandiah Kamalesvaran – has moved out of the marital home and lives alone at a country club in Sydney’s northern beaches.

Kamahl said he regrets taking his wife’s grace for granted ‘and wishes he had given her’ more hugs’ during their long marriage.

The separated couple remain close, but meet regularly for dinner: ‘She still prepares me her incredibly delicious lamb shank every fortnight.’

Kamahl married Sahodra in 1967 without his family’s approval, and they share two grown children, musician Rajan, 52, and singer Rani, 50.
