New York City may see its first snowfall of the season as the winter storm moves into the area over the weekend as temperatures drop to an abnormally low level, according to meteorologists.

On Sunday, seawater snow is expected to reach the area, but only a small occupancy to an inch of accumulation in the city is expected due to temperatures and daylight, according to Accuweather.

Cities north of New York like Albany and Hartford, Connecticut all have an opportunity to see a few inches of snow from the storm, meteorologists said, as do other areas to the north and west.

Airlines’ delays are likely due to de-icing of planes in some places, Accuweather predicted.

If the rapid storm suddenly stops and intensifies Sunday night through Monday, New York City will have a greater chance of snow accumulation.

Temperatures dropped 8 -15 degrees Fahrenheit below normal Tuesday and Wednesday, Accuweather reported. While temperatures rose slightly Thursday to Thanksgiving, temperatures are expected to fall again over the weekend to levels typical of mid to late December.

Unusually warm Atlantic temperatures will reduce the chance of snow accumulation along the immediate area, where a mix of rain and snow is more likely.

Accuweather predicts local road conditions will be wet with possible slippery spots outside urban areas as roads cool off Sunday night.
