ABC’s breakfast sports presenter Tony Armstrong has shocked viewers this morning after he debuted with a fresh look – waving goodbye to his iconic mustache and long hair.
Armstrong – a former Collingwood footballer – has become one of the country’s most beloved presenters with petitions circulating last month that he was named the next bachelor.
This morning, the audience for ABC’s breakfast show was amazed to see his new look, where many took to social media to express their reaction.
Armstrong explained that the new look that came was prompted by a text message from his mother.
“She texted me (and said), ‘You would make me feel a lot better if you shaved your face and got a haircut,’ and I was like, ‘OK,'” he said.
One person asked where his “lovely locks” had disappeared to, while another joked that the new sports presented sounded like Armstrong but did not look like him.
Armstrong played for Adelaide, Sydney Swans and Collingwood during his eight-year AFL career.
He turned to journalism after his career ended and hosted the first season of NITV’s Yokayi Footy in 2020, before joining ABC later that year.
