Sunrise sports presenter Mark Beretta reveals his biggest regret over his family life










He is the sports host of Channel Seven’s flagship breakfast program Sunrise.

And Mark Beretta has now revealed his biggest regret over his career in television and sports commentary.

The 55-year-old told New Idea that he is missing out on ‘family time in the morning’ because of his early start.

In retrospect, he wished he had spent more quality time at home with his children when they were younger.

‘When the kids were little, they went to bed early and all the lights were off in our house by 7pm. But now they later get up and sleep out and you miss that family time in the morning, he said.

‘When I look back, you think I would have loved to spend more time at home, but life is what it is and you get the most out of it.’

Despite this, Beretta has ‘no complaints’ about his job and is ‘very grateful’ to be in the position he is in because it has given his family ‘extraordinary benefits’.

Mark shares two children, Ava, 17, and Daniel, 14, with his wife, Rachel.

Asked what Ava and Daniel think about watching their father on TV, Mark said they ‘take it all in stride’.

He said they initially thought it was ‘dorky’ before realizing it was ‘not that bad’ – especially when he was able to take them both to the Sydney Opera House to see Katy Perry perform. live.

Mark has attached to his teens in recent years after they developed an interest in his lifelong passion for motorsport.

‘We go a lot on the pitch and they really enjoy it,’ said Mark, adding: ‘Not quite to the same extent as me, but they have the fault.’

Ava and Daniel will almost certainly see their father report from Mount Panorama during the Repco Bathurst 1000 race.

Mark has been with Seven since the mid-1990s and has risen in ranks as a respected sports commentator.

He is now the sports host for Sunrise along with co-hosts David Koch and Natalie Barr, weatherman Sam Mac and news anchor Edwina Bartholomew.
