The troubled AFL star Jordan De Goey has arrived back in Australia after months away in the US as the Collingwood dynamo prepares for court via video link.

The 25-year-old landed at Sydney airport on Tuesday morning with his Magpies career in balance.

De Goey was shut down by Collingwood last month after a night in New York resulted in him being charged with assault.

He is due to appear in court on December 8, where he will almost certainly be able to attend.

An earlier charge of coercion was dropped just days after the alleged incident at a Halloween-themed party at the PHD Rooftop Lounge on October 30th.

De Goey traveled to the United States in the low season to undergo an intensive fitness program at the W Training Facility in California in an effort to capitalize on an excellent end to the 2021 AFL season.

He was only able to leave Australia with a permit due to his sponsorship and employment agreements with Monster Energy.

De Goey has played 118 games and kicked 155 goals for Collingwood since making his 2015 debut.

He finished in fourth place in the club’s best and fairest award this year, capturing close to career-best form in the second half of the campaign.

Collingwood is unsure whether to stick with De Goey, no matter what happens when he faces trial.

“It’s a concern that he’s been in a situation that in the best case scenario is that he’s been to New York and ended up in a bar fight where he was arrested no matter what happens with the trial,” said Magpie’s football manager Graham Wright. 3AW last week.

“We’re really disappointed with that … until we come face to face with him and see where the lawsuit goes, we’re in that team pattern.”
