The fallout from Brandon Smith’s podcast appearance continues, with the Penrith Panthers taking the unusual step of refusing to ever talk to the Storm whore about his future.

Smith said during the interview that the prizes were one of the clubs interested in picking him up from 2023 onwards.

“The Penrith Panthers want to address a specific comment from Melbourne Storm player Brandon Smith, who has received mainstream media coverage,” reads a statement from the club.

“In a podcast episode, Smith identified the Panthers as an NRL club that had expressed interest in acquiring his services during recent contract negotiations.

“The club strongly rejects this claim.”

Penrith was adamant that there was never an expression of interest in Smith, nor had the club contacted him or his management.

“While there would be no malicious intent in making the comment, misconduct like this can and does have a tangible impact on our club’s actual business relationships,” said Penrith general manager Matt Cameron.

“We felt it was important to correct the public record on this occasion.”

Smith’s public interview caused quite a few shock waves around the sport, earlier today he was forced to issue a statement while the debate has raged over his comments regarding Rooster’s professionalism and his desire to win a premiere post with them.
