An early foul that Werster used allowed him to slip completely through routes with the menu open and skip all potential wild meetings and coaching fights. Another mistake sent him off from Sangem Town, an early battlefield, to the mid-to-late battle showdown Pastoria City. Despite having to restart the game multiple times to activate certain cheats and errors, Werster was able to cross Sinnoh with minimal ease.

This was also the first of his speedrun attempts, with Werster choosing Chimchar as his starter Pokémon, having previously chosen Piplup and Turtwig. Werster explained this shift about 24 minutes inside the video, saying Chimchar is more likely to faint faster. This seems to be an invaluable change, as there are moments when Werster had to lose to NPC coaches on purpose to quickly return to a previous position.

But despite these minimal setbacks, the YouTuber completed the game without earning a Gym Badge and skipping the Elite Four with only his Chimchar. In the video description, Werster teased an even faster race, saying that they “already have a better route than this race at the time this will be uploaded, which was put together within an hour of this being comp.[l]eted. “
