Video of a commercial truck making a dangerous passage in BC’s interior this week was quickly condemned.
According to the person who posted the video on Dec. 2, the pass happened on a winding, two-lane stretch of Highway 5A.
The commercial truck, after rounding a corner, passes another semi on a short straight stretch and crosses a double drawn line to do so.

The pass was completed while walking up a small hill and just before an oncoming curve.
Highway 5A runs from Kamloops to Princeton, and usually does not draw volume as the nearby Coquihalla Highway does.
But with Coquihalla currently closed due to flooding, smaller highways in BC’s interior are experiencing large increases in commercial traffic.
The post to Twitter received quick responses from both BC Transportation and BC Highway Patrol.
BC Highway Patrol thanked the poster for the video, adding that “the words dangerous and unprofessional come to mind. Please do not sacrifice safety for speed – we get the pressure you are under. BC can not afford long highway barriers due to (commercial motor vehicles) accidents Slow down!

Meanwhile, BC Transportation said the province’s safety and enforcement of commercial vehicles will follow up.
Last week, three people died in a head-on collision with two transport trucks on Highway 3. The highway was closed for 16 hours, and after the fatal accident, BC Highway Patrol urged motorists to travel only for significant reasons.
“With the closure of several major routes and only limited or limited travel on others, it is expected that the motorways opened to significant journeys will experience an increase in traffic volume in general, and traffic in commercial vehicles in particular, and this includes Highway 3. “
