Large parts of the Civic have been closed to traffic since Hollywood comes to Canberra. Filming has begun on the new Liam Neeson film Blacklight, in which an “important” car chase is filmed on the streets of Canberra. Between Thursday and Sunday, traffic and pedestrians will be blocked from several locations around the Civic, which includes: Local residents and businesses will still have access during the admission period. Public transport along these roads has also been diverted, with bus stops on the London Circuit closed. Roads are also expected to be closed Monday and Tuesday if wet weather disrupts footage. The cars used as part of the chase have been seen on the streets of the Civic on Thursday morning in preparation for filming. While the film is a Liam Neeson film, the Hollywood star is not in Canberra, where stunt drivers are instead part of the action. The eastern car park at the Canberra Olympic Pool has also been closed until January 22, which currently houses the production facility. Additional roadblocks will also be in place at night from January 18 to 22 between 6 p.m. 8pm and 6pm at Parkes Way between Coranderrk Street and Clunies Ross Street. Between 19 and 22 January, there will be nightly closures on Edinburgh Avenue from Phillip Law Street to Lawson Crescent as well as the London Circuit in both directions and the Parkes Way exit ramp.
