NHL draft picks Ostapchuk, Lysell, Cotton, Sourdif and Vikman lead as the Giants return from a 3-1 and 4-3 deficit to claim a 6-5 victory

The Kamloops Blazers and Everett Silvertips went into the weekend with three combined defeats in regular time, and the Vancouver Giants immediately beat them on back-to-back nights.

The Giants defeated Silvertips, who were No. 3 on last week’s national rankings, 6-5 on Saturday in Everett. The victory came hot on the heels of a 3-1 triumph over No. 2 Blazers at the Langley Events Center last Friday.

Vancouver (13-7-1-0) has won six in a row.

Against Silver Tips (18-2-1-1), Vancouver rose from a 3-1 first period and 4-3 deficit in the second period.

Striker Zack Ostapchuk’s second goal of the evening and sixth goal of the season at 11:12 in the third period stood out as the winner of the match. Ostapchuk, the Ottawa Senators’ 2021 second-round pick, has five goals in his last three games.

Boston Bruins 2021 first round Fabian Lysell had one goal and two assists for the Giants, giving the winger five goals and 12 points in the last five games. He has nine goals a year.

Defender Alex Cotton also got his ninth and added two assists. The Detroit Red Wings 2020 fifth round has three goals and 10 points in its last six games. He is just the leader in the league in goals among defenders.

Centers Ty Thorpe and Ty Halaburda added their eighth and third goals, respectively.

Florida Panthers 2020 third round Justin Sourdif had three assists in the win. The striker starts Team Canada world junior team camp on Thursday in Calgary and are not expected to play for the Giants when they visit Kamloops (17-4-0-0) on Wednesday. The Blazers followed up on their loss to Vancouver with a 4-3 setback Saturday to the Kelowna Rockets (11-6-0-2).

The Rockets are 3-0-0-0 against the Blazers this season.

Jackson Berezowski had two goals for Everett against the Giants.

Jesper Vikman, who is a Vegas Golden Knights 2020 fifth rounder, fired 43 shots in the Vancouver net. Koen MacInnes delivered six goals on 26 shots before being pulled with just under nine minutes left. Braden Holt stopped all three shots he encountered in relief.

It was Teddy Bear Toss Night in Everett, and Silvertip fans did not have to wait long to throw their stuffed toys when Matthew Ng opened the scoring 1:54 inside the match.
