Firefighters battled strong winds as they worked to put out a difficult structural fire in Blenheim on Monday afternoon.

Firefighters from Raleigh South, Raleigh North, Blenheim and Merlin were called to a structural fire at 8097 Middle Line around 2:30 p.m.

Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke in the area, saying extremely strong winds made the firefighting effort difficult. Officials said one person was rescued from the fire, thankfully no one was injured.

Crews said the fire started in the garage attached to the house before spreading to the rest of the home.

The cause of the fire is still unknown and the damage is estimated at $ 400,000.
