Edinson Cavani has only played 214 minutes of Premier League football so far this season, and that is largely due to the fact that he has not been available due to various fitness issues, as well as quarantine at the start of the season.

There has been an assumption from some quarters that Cristiano Ronaldo’s arrival has pushed Cavani out of the picture at Old Trafford, yet it is difficult to get a clear picture of the situation before the Uruguayan is fully fit and available for an extended period.

As his contract expires next summer, there have been repeated allegations that Cavani could soon leave the English club, either in January, when Barcelona are thought to be a possible destination at the time, or next summer, when more South American clubs would be interested in a free transfer.

Turin newspaper Tuttosport say Cavani could also be an option for Juventus in January as the club seek to find a striker and a switch to Dusan Vlahovic looks increasingly difficult.

According to the report, the striker has ‘known for a long time’ that Manchester United do not consider him a priority, therefore his entourage has ‘sought for a good opportunity’ elsewhere.

It does not make much sense.

If it has been the situation ‘longest’ as I said, then it would not have made sense for the Red Devils to make a big effort in the summer to get him to stay.

Cavani is an option for Juventus, although there are concerns about his salary.
