President Biden received scorn online Tuesday night to Wednesday morning after a clip on Twitter showed him wearing a mask while walking outside on a Delaware beach with his wife, First Lady Jill Biden, and their dog commander.
Footage taken by C-SPAN shows Biden, fully vaccinated with a booster shot, wearing a mask outside during a stroll on Rehoboth Beach with only a few people around. The first lady, who is also fully vaccinated, did not wear a mask on the beach.

The CDC’s guidelines for wearing a mask outside have remained largely unchanged since the first half of the year, including Dr. Anthony Fauci, who previously said in May that “the risk when you are outdoors – as we have been saying all along – is extremely low,” prompting several people on Twitter to mock Biden for participating in “mask theater”, and another Twitter user said, “The theater never ends with the left.”
“Vaccinated and boosted Joe Biden is wearing a mask outside, on the beach, alone with his wife,” Heritage Foundation tweeted John Cooper. “Mask theater is so absurd.”
“Look at this idiot. Walking on a deserted beach with his wife and wearing a mask,” tweeted former Trump campaign adviser Steve Cortes. “The theater never ends with the left …”

The bite has been called out several times to send mixed signals on wearing masks. Biden received criticism for shopping at Murray’s Toggery Shop on Nantucket Island last month without a mask, despite a sign on the front door saying “Required face coverage.”
In October, he was criticized after footage emerged of him and the first lady not following local mask mandates in DC at an advanced restaurant in Georgetown.
In another case, Biden was set mingled with members of the public without a mask until he participated in a selfie photo shoot in which he put on a mask. The video, which was caught of RNC, shows Biden, shaking hands with several people nearby. A month earlier he was seen cough in hand without mask and then handshake with followers.

Fauci weighed in wearing masks on flights Sunday during an interview on ABC’s “This Week” and said it should not even be considered to take off masks while on a plane. His comment came afterwards Southwest Airlines Gary Kelly told a panel in the U.S. Senate on Wednesday that “masks do not add much, if anything” in the fight against the proliferation of COVID-19 on airplanes.
“I think the case is very strong that masks do not add much, if anything, to the cabin environment,” Kelly said. “It is very safe and very high quality compared to other indoor environments.”
