Darcy Vescio from Carlton reveals that they are non-binary

Carlton AFLW star Darcy Vescio has revealed that they are non-binary in a post on social media that has already been liked by thousands.

The 28-year-old took to Twitter on Wednesday to open up about their gender.

“Just show up to tell you I’m non-binary,” Vescio wrote.

“Sharing this feels a little scary, but it gives me a lot of warmth and happiness.

“I’m most comfortable with those pronouns and will always respond to Darcy unless I’m in trouble.”

Vescio follows the Gold Coast Suns’ Tori Groves-Little in coming out publicly as a non-binary.

The non-binary concept comes from the understanding that gender can be fluid, meaning that a person does not have to identify as a man or woman.

“There are two parts to being non-binary,” Groves-Little said in an interview with AFL.com.au last week.

“There is one where you are more sexually fluid, where you can wake up and feel more feminine, or one day you will feel more masculine.

“And there is the other, which I identify more as, is none of the parts.”

Vescio was an AFLW All-Australian in 2021 and topped the goal-kicking leaderboard for the second season in a row.
