Natalie Portman has joined the chorus of actors and filmmakers who on Tuesday paid tribute to the late director Jean-Marc Vallée.

The 40-year-old actress shared a photo of the filmmaker on her Instagram story along with a heartfelt message revealing that she was working with him on a project.

The filmmaker died suddenly in his cabin outside Quebec City, Quebec Canada at the age of 58 from a heart attack on Christmas Day.

‘Destructive to losing this great man,’ Portman began in his heartfelt tribute to his Instagram story Tuesday afternoon.

“I’ve been fortunate to work with him as a producer over the last few months, and I was constantly touched by his kindness, thoughtfulness and soul,” she continued.

The project Portman worked on with Vallée is a TV series entitled Lady In the Lake, which Portman starred in and which Vallée produced for Apple TV Plus, which gave it a direct-to-series order in March.

Portman was associated with playing and producing with Vallée through his Crazyrose production company.

The story follows Maddie Schwartz (Portman), a housewife and mother in 1960s Baltimore who reinvents herself as a journalist due to an unsolved murder.

She ends up bumping into Cleo Sherwood (Nyong’o), described as, ‘a hard-working woman who juggles motherhood, many jobs, and a passionate commitment to advancing Baltimore’s Black progressive agenda.’

The show is the first major television role for Portman, who started his career as a child actress in films such as Leon: The Professional and Heat in the early 1990s.

Alma Har’el (Honey Boy) co-created the series with Dre Ryan (The Man in the High Castle), where Har’el also directed the series.

Portman returns to the big screen next year in Marvel’s long-awaited sequel Thor: Love and Thunder as Jane Foster, in theaters on July 8.

She is also linked to the lead role in director Todd Haynes’ new film May December, starring alongside Julianne Moore.

The actress will also voice Ronnie in the upcoming animated film Foxy Trotter.
