Patti Newton laid her husband Bert to rest last month.

And on Wednesday, she shared her gratitude for the continued messages of love and support sent to her following the passing of her TV icon husband.

The 76-year-old posted a picture of Bert hugging their four adorable grandchildren – the children of their daughter Lauren and her former Olympic husband Matt Welsh.

Patti wrote in the caption: ‘The love that has been shown Bert, from messages, thousands of cards, letters has been overwhelming.

“We just want to say ‘thank you,'” she wrote on behalf of her family.

She revealed: ‘The empty hole and heartache I feel is huge, I think I just loved him too much. Thanks again, he would be so excited. ‘

Bert tragically died on October 30 at the age of 83.

“When you get a leg amputated, you have to be on a lot of pain medication, and Bert had had, just this year alone, he’s had eight procedures, all of which involved anesthesia, and it affects you pretty hard,” she said.

The TV legend had a Victorian state funeral on November 12 in St. Louis. Patrick’s Cathedral in Melbourne.
