Space News: AE3 asteroid 2017 ‘three times the size of the Statue of Liberty’ to zoom past Earth

A huge “potentially dangerous” asteroid is expected to pass close to Earth on Wednesday night.

The asteroid marked “2017 AE3” is about three times the size of the Statue of Liberty and is expected to orbit closely around the Earth.

Space Reference.Org says that based on the asteroid’s brightness and the way it reflects light, it measures to be about 260 meters in diameter.

The famous landmark of New York stands at 93 meters.

Scientists say that the asteroid orbits the sun every 913 days or 2 and a half years.

Scientists have predicted that AE3 in 2017 will have four more close approaches to Earth in the coming decades.

Although the asteroid is quite large, it will not be visible from Earth.

Any fast-moving space object that comes within 7.5 million kilometers is considered “potentially dangerous” by space organizations.

The large asteroid is expected to shoot past without any problems at about 75,000 kilometers per hour on Wednesday night.
