When you get a monitor of any type, the first thing to consider is the size. And unless the screen is moving around, chances are that the bigger it is, the better your experience will be. TV manufacturers have gone big, smartphones (to my annoyance) insist on doing so, and now it’s time for a newer category, smart screens, to enter the big screen.

Amazon Echo Show 15 is not only the largest Echo package yet, it has the largest screen you can easily find on a smart screen of any brand. The 15.6-inch screen is designed to be docked and act as a central organizational hub for your household. With Alexa-powered widgets like shared calendars, shopping lists, to-do lists, and the ability to call household members and manage your other smart devices, there are plenty of benefits to take advantage of.

Navigating the content of Echo Show 15 sometimes feels awkward, and some features are hard to spot, despite Amazon’s efforts to fill the user interface with tips. Different family member profiles can be activated via face recognition, but the transition is not always smooth. You will need to train your family to use Echo Show 15 to make it really worthwhile. But if you’re on your way down to smart screens, the Echo Show 15 comes with a larger screen and greater options than the competition.

The bigger, more beautiful smart screen

Echo Show 15 is about the biggest smart screen you can find. The 1920 x 1080 screen measures 15.6 inches diagonally. It tops the 10.1-inch Echo Show 10. The extra size has obvious advantages, such as easier navigation, the ability to see more on the screen at once and makes the Picture Frame feature more effective. But it does not come with a greater price. At the time of writing, Echo Show 15 and Echo Show 10 have the same price

Meanwhile, the largest Facebook portal, $ 300 Portal +, is only 14 inches, Google’s Nest Hub Max is 10 inches, and Lenovo has the 10.1-inch Smart Display 10 “.

Portal +, however, has a sharper resolution of 2160 x 1440. This all gives greater pixel density for Facebook’s screen (185.43 pixels per inch) compared to Echo Show 15 (141.2 ppi). Of course, the Echo Show 15 also loses the ppi competition over smaller screens, like the Nest Hub Max (1280 x 800 for 150.94 ppi). A sharp screen is important, considering that Echo Show 15 offers access to streaming services like Netflix and Hulu. Considering that you are primarily going to touch and read things out of it, more screen property is better.

You can set Echo Show 15 to adjust the brightness based on how much light is in the room. It is not an uncommon feature. In fact, Portal + can adjust both brightness and color in this way. However, I did not find the feature so useful because the Echo Show 15 would not drop above 50 percent brightness, even in an almost carbon black room.

Despite being a pretty hefty piece of hardware, the Echo Show 15 easily blended into the aesthetics of my home. Unlike other smart screens, it does not look like a tablet glued to a wireless speaker. A black frame contrasts with the screen’s thick but classic white border, allowing the device to play the roles of a picture frame, painting or bulletin board with ease. The design made me easily fall in love with the Photo Frame feature, which shows your photos or a carousel of theme photos and / or paintings.

In addition to this seasonal theme, the Photo Frame mode can carousel nature, art or your own photos.

And by combining pleasing images with Alexa’s Nature Sounds skills, which play peaceful sounds through the screen’s speakers, Echo Show 15 added an unexpectedly soothing vibe to its room.

Unique is that the Echo Show 15 can be mounted or mounted vertically or horizontally. Not everyone has table space to dedicate to a smart screen, and mounting it makes the use of face recognition easier, as it requires the camera to be able to see the user at eye level. This makes it difficult to find the perfect mounting position (unless your family is equally tall). In addition, the Echo Show 15’s 5-foot cord may give you the need for an extension cord.

If you do not think Echo Show 15 is worth the holes in your wall, you can use a stand instead, but you will have to pay $ 30 extra.
