Calder Freeway Melbourne crash: Man charged with deadly crash earlier in December killing a two-year-old girl

A man has been charged with a horrific crash on a major motorway in Melbourne that killed a two-year-old girl.

The multiple-vehicle accident occurred on Dec. 6 on the Calder Freeway at Diggers Rest.

A grain truck collided with as many as seven cars.

A two-year-old girl from Caulfield South, who was the rear passenger of one of the cars, died on the spot.

A 35-year-old man, a 37-year-old woman and a one-year-old girl, all from the same car, were driven to the hospital and treated for a series of injuries.

A 62-year-old South Melbourne man driving a Toyota Hilux was trapped under the truck until he was released from emergency services.

He was admitted and has since been discharged.

The truck driver, a 42-year-old Donald man, has been charged with guilty driving with death resulting in, police announced on Wednesday.

He was sentenced to appear in Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 18 May 2022.
