Channel 7 programming changes when Melbourne Stars’ Big Bash League match against Perth Scorchers was abandoned due to COVID

The Big Bash League match between the Melbourne Stars and Perth Scorchers at Marvel Stadium has been postponed due to a COVID-19 case.

The match was to be played on Thursday night.

7NEWS understands that an employee who works with Stars players has been tested positive.

“While regrettable, the decision to postpone tonight’s match was the only option available given the exposures in the Stars cohort,” said BBL chief Alistair Dobson.

“The league has a number of biosecurity protocols in place to keep our participants safe and the competition moving forward.

“These protocols are regularly reviewed in response to the risks in each state.

“Safety remains our top priority and we will work with the Stars to get their team back on track as soon as possible.”

This is the first time a BBL or WBBL luminaire has been affected by COVID-19.

Channel 7 will replace coverage of the match with another program.
