Man shows up at the Crown Court charged with murder on Simon Birch Christmas Day

Northumbria Police launched an investigation into Simon Birch’s death after being called to an address in Sunderland Road, Newbottle, around 11.20pm on Saturday 25 December.

The rescue services attended and found the 39-year-old ‘with a serious injury equivalent to being caused by an article with leaves’.

The force confirmed on Monday, December 27, that Simon – also known as Birchie – despite efforts by paramedics died on the spot.

Adam Jenkins, 34, of Sunderland Road, Newbottle, has been charged with murder and appeared before the Newcastle Magistrates’ Court on Monday when the case was presented to the Crown Court today, Wednesday 29 December.

The case was adjourned until Monday, January 24th.

No pleas were filed and Jenkins was remanded in custody.
