Police arson is investigating three early morning fires in Centretown

Ottawa police are investigating fires early Thursday morning at three nearby properties in Centretown.

The force’s arson unit has taken over the investigation, police said, although no further information was provided.

It was a busy early morning for the Ottawa Fire Department, with firefighters taking care of three separate fires within a few blocks of each other in the city center.

The first fire was reported at. 4:50 a.m. on a 100-block property on Cambridge Street North. About half an hour later, at 05.20, another fire was reported at the 600 block on Somerset Street West.

No one was injured, but two people were displaced in the fires.

Finally, a fire was reported at a location in the 500 block of Lisgar Street shortly after noon. 5:35.

Again, no injuries were reported in this fire.

From east to west, all three locations were within just over a mile of each other.
