Sir Cliff Richard, 81, ‘tops 2022 music calendar sales charts’

Sir Cliff Richard has topped the 2022 music calendar’s sales charts, beating a number of younger singing stars, according to a new report.

The star, 81, reportedly came first on the rankings, followed by the late Elvis Presley – who died in 1977 at the age of 42 – in second place.

The pair beat people like Harry Styles, Taylor Swift and Little Mix to get to the top, The Sun claims.

Harry, 27, became number three after having great success in his solo career after leaving One Direction.

Australian pop icon Kylie Minogue, 53, finished fourth, while Little Mix finished sixth on the list.

Taylor Swift, 32, finished ninth, Robbie Williams, 47, finished seventh, while Queen finished tenth.

A representative of Cliff has been contacted by MailOnline for a comment.

In total calendar sales, football teams topped the charts, while the American sitcom Friends in the TV category came first.

Sir Cliff has sold more than 250 million records worldwide, making him one of the best-selling music artists of all time.

He has a combined sales of over 21.5 million singles in the UK and is the third best-selling artist in UK Singles Charts history, behind Elvis Presley and The Beatles.

Sir Cliff told his fans last year that his days of going topless on his annual calendar as an 80-year-old were probably over.

If the 2022 version is anything to go by, though, it looks like he has changed.

August’s picture gives a glimpse of the popular singer wearing a pair of swimming trunks and raising a glass to the camera while she takes a dip in a pool.

The shirtless shot may come as a surprise to those who read his autobiography, The Dreamer, released last October.

“I suppose I have taken my last topless picture for my annual calendar,” he wrote. ‘I suppose it’s time to leave the Chippendales market elegantly.’

He is clearly not ready to give up his pin-up status yet, but last month he released the first look at his official 2022 calendar, which includes 12 new photos of him in a series of positions.

For the February image, Sir Cliff embraces his inner rocker by posing in a leather jacket with a red electric guitar.

In the month of May he can be seen calm on a lake and until December he poses in a cardigan in front of the fire with a gift.

The calendar was mainly filmed in New York City earlier this year, with one of the photos taken in Barbados.

A representative of Sir Cliff said: ‘Given the global pandemic, the formal plans for the annual calendar recording were changed to a more journalistic point of view, where a Briton in the United States found picturesque places in and around Central Park.

‘Sir Cliff loved the informality of the footage.’

More than 1.5 million of Sir Cliff’s calendars have been sold since it was first published in 1979.

In the decades that have passed, he has delighted his fans around the world with a variety of poses in some exotic locations, including sunbathing on a lilo in Barbados, jet skiing and sitting on top of a cannon.

But in 2013, he suggested he might be ready to stop the tradition, claiming it was too much ‘pressure’.

He told chat show host Graham Norton that his 35th would be his last. “I think the reason the rumors that I do not want to do more is probably because it’s true,” he said.

Sir Cliff, who had his first hit with Move It in 1958, has an estimated net worth of £ 80 million.
