The BBL match was canceled after the COVID-19 case in the Stars camp

Ashes referee David Boon is in Melbourne quarantined after testing positive for COVID-19, which forced him to be replaced for next week’s fourth test at SCG.

Separately, tonight’s Melbourne Stars against Perth Scorcher’s BBL showdown at Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium has been postponed after a positive case in the Stars’ camp.

The match was moved from Perth’s Optus Stadium to Melbourne due to the ongoing impact of COVID-19.

Cricket Australia said referee and former Australian butcher Boon had tested positive after a PCR test.

CA said Steve Bernard, a member of the international judging panel and based in NSW, will take over as match referee for the fourth Test, which starts in Sydney on 5 January.

“It is expected that David Boon will return to the role for the fifth Test in Hobart, starting January 14,” CA said in a statement.

“He is asymptomatic and fully vaccinated, including a booster.”

Boon remains in Melbourne and will continue to be quarantined for 10 days in accordance with Victorian guidelines.
