The Royal Canadian Legion wants to expand the program to help homeless veterans

The Royal Canadian Legion’s Ontario Command hopes to expand its “Leave the Streets Behind” program, which aims to stop homelessness among veterans.

Vice President Derek Moore, who lives in Mount Forest, says part of the expansion could include the formation of regional committees across the province, similar to what has been done in many cities, including Toronto, Ottawa and London.

Moore says a regional committee could include a representative from each of the legion’s seven divisions in Wellington County, who would ideally work with the county and police to help veterans in need of support.

According to the Legion’s website, the program is proud to be able to offer accommodation to all veterans who are either homeless or about to be homeless, usually within 48 hours.
