Aramco, VR46 MotoGP sponsorship story ends

After months of back and forth, it has been confirmed that Aramco will not actually sponsor the VR46 Racing Team in MotoGP.

Earlier this year, Tanal Entertainment Sport & Media announced that the state-owned Saudi oil giant would take over the naming rights to the VR46 Racing Team in 2022.

But just a day after that announcement, Aramco denied any involvement with Tanal Entertainment Sport & Media or the team, despite Rossi confirming that an agreement had been reached.

A long saga followed with suggestions that the VR46 team had been sold, promising $ 18 million in sponsorship, followed by a press conference not shown by HRH Prince Abdulaziz bin Abdullah Al Saud of Tanal Entertainment Sport & Media.

Now it looks like the Aramco saga is over and the Italian company Mooney confirms that it has taken the naming rights to the team.

“Mooney, the first Italian Proximity Banking & Payments company, will be the new title sponsor of the VR46 Racing Team, the motorcycle team created by Valentino Rossi and competing in the MotoGP and Moto2 World Championship,” read a statement.

“By agreement, the new team will name the Mooney VR46 Racing Team and will be used in all photos of the Team (including bikes and equestrian suits) and in all official communications.

“Additional information will be revealed on January 3.”

Italian duo Luca Marini and Marco Bezzecchi drive for the Mooney VR46 Racing Team on a pair of Ducati Desmosedici GP21.

The team will be led by Pablo Nieto, the team’s Moto2 team leader.
