Manchester City’s Joao Cancelo assaulted, injured by ‘four cowards’

Joao Cancelo was assaulted in a home robbery that left the Manchester City defender with an incision over his eye.

Cancelo wrote on Instagram Thursday to reveal that he had jewelry stolen after being attacked by four men. City’s players and staff were to stay in London between their matches against Brentford and Arsenal this week, but instead returned to Manchester on Wednesday night ahead of the match in the Emirates on Saturday.

Sources told ESPN that on Friday a decision will be made on whether Cancelo will travel with his teammates to London for the Arsenal match.

“Unfortunately today I was attacked by four cowards who hurt me and tried to hurt my family. When you show resistance, that’s what happens,” Cancelo said in an Instagram post along with a photo of himself with a deep cut over the eye.

“They managed to take all my jewelry and leave me with my face in this state. I do not know how there are people with such malice. The most important thing for me is my family, and fortunately they all have it.

“After so many obstacles in my life, this is just one more that I want to overcome. Firm and strong as always.”

Town published a statesmant says: “We are shocked and shocked that Joao Cancelo and his family were subjected to a burglary in their home tonight where Joao was also assaulted.

“Joao and his family are being supported by the club and he is helping the police with their investigations while they investigate this very serious case.”
