The Los Angeles Lakers met the Memphis Grizzlies Wednesday night as they continued their attempts to get out of the play-in positions and move into the top 6 in the Western Conference standings.
However, they fell short again and lost with a score of 104-99 in a close match. The Grizzlies overcame a 14-point deficit in the second half, scoring the Lakers 26-16 in the 4th quarter to secure their victory.
Grizz also had a really good time with their win, where the franchise’s Twitter account took the opportunity to grill the Lakers. After the game was over, the official Grizzlies account tweeted a picture of a cartoon character with the letter L to really rub their losses in.
The Grizzlies were driven by an incredible performance from point guard Ja Morant, who put 41 points back with 10 rebounds. He was well supported by Desmond Bane, who added 20 points and Jaren Jackson Jr., who scored 15.
LeBron James continued his impressive form run with 37 points and grabbed 13 boards, but that was not enough. Russell Westbrook had a triple-double again, but shot only 46% from the field.
The Grizzlies are at the start of a potential winning streak, which is their 3rd win in a row, bringing them to a 22-14 record. They are now the 4th seed in the Western Conference and comfortable, 3.5 games ahead of the 5th seed Nuggets.
The Lakers are in reverse in a crisis, having lost 7 of their last 9 games and lost ground on the 6th seed Clippers, which beat the Boston Celtics quite comfortably at night.
LeBron and the company will definitely notice the trash talk that the Grizzlies have indulged in and will itch after responding on the pitch. The two teams will meet next time on January 9, just 10 days from now, in what looks to be a spicy match-up.
