Woman in wheelchair was critically injured in Main Street accident, charge of disabled driving – Winnipeg

A man is charged with impaired driving after a woman in a wheelchair was hit by a vehicle on Main Street in Winnipeg Wednesday night.

The woman in her 50s was driven to the hospital in critical condition after she was hit on Main Street and Inkster Boulevard shortly before noon.

Police said the woman remained in the hospital Thursday but has stabilized.

All northbound lanes on Main Street near the intersection were blocked for several hours after the accident.

A 46-year-old man from St. Andrews, Man., Faces charges of operating a means of transportation while being influenced to some degree and failing or refusing to comply with a claim.

The accused has since been released on a summons, which police note is mandated by the penal code.
