Thanks to the observation forces and naval feet of two Kingston police officers, a local 23-year-old man is in custody and faces a total of 24 charges after he ran from a vehicle stop and was found in possession of a loaded weapon, purple fentanyl and more.

According to a statement from Kingston Police, once stopped on Railway Street near Patrick Street, the man, known to police and later identified as Joshua Brandon Mundell, fled on foot.

Officers chased Mundell into the property at 375 Patrick Street, where police said they were able to close the distance. As they approached and tried to gain control of Mundell, officers noticed that he was trying to gain access to a fanny pack strapped to his chest and also reached into his waistband. While resisting, the arresting officer managed to bring him under control and handcuff him, according to the release.

When they were searched, officers found a loaded 9mm Glock pistol inside the fanny pack. Police said they also searched around the area of ​​his waist and found 77 grams of suspected fentanyl and 2.5 grams of suspected crystal methamphetamine.

When he returned to the taxi, police discovered that Mundell had left a bag inside the vehicle when he fled. According to the release, it was also seized and discovered to contain armor equivalent to what police are using, $ 760 in Canadian currency and two cell phones.

Police said Mundell was on three separate gun bans, two of them indefinitely, for previous assault convictions between 2019 and 2021 for not possessing firearms or ammunition. He was also on probation since December 2021 with conditions that included not being in possession of any weapons.

As a result of the arrest, investigation, seizures and previous bans and conditions, Mundell was held overnight to attend a bail hearing the following day, in which a total of 24 offenses in the Penal Code and Drug and Drug Control (CDSA) were sworn in before the judge. of peace. Mundell was remanded in custody to appear in court again at a future date.
