The 20-year-old was reported missing by friends at 1pm on Saturday afternoon after walking in front of them at Emerald Creek Falls in Atherton Tablelands and then disappearing out of sight.
Searches on land and from the air were commenced in the effort to locate the man and continued until Saturday night.
SES, special police and rapid water rescue crews also helped with the search, where the body of the man was found by police divers in the falls around 1 p.m. 16.15 yesterday.
The surrounding Emerald Falls Road in Mareeba had been closed during the search, but has since been reopened.
A statement from Queensland Police said there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the young man’s death.
A report of the death will be prepared for the coroner.
“The Queensland Police Service is condoling the man’s family and friends during this difficult time,” the statement read.
