The only thing better than a donut is a free donut – with one woman going viral on TikTok for revealing a little known trick.

It’s a truth universally acknowledged that the only thing better than a donut is free donut.

So it’s understandable that some Aussie Krispy Kreme fans have been very excited upon learning of a store signal that means they can get donuts for free.

In a TikTok video that’s been viewed more than 700,000 times, @ moniqueriley95 filmed herself buying Krispy Kremes and coffee via a drive-through store in Sydney when she spotted the outlet’s neon red sign was on.

“Excuse me, do we get free samples because the Krispy Kreme light is on?” Monique asks.

“Yes,” the Krispy Kreme worker replies, before going to get them each a donut.

Monique labeled the information a “very important life hack”, saying that you could get a free donut for “each person in the car” when the light was on.

Understandably Krispy Kreme fans who saw the video were very, ahem, excited to learn they could get a free donut.

“How did I not know this,” one person asked.

“Oh my god, life changing,” another said.

“I was wondering why we got two free donuts,” one commenter also wrote.

But others claimed it was common knowledge and they had been making use of this information to get free donuts for years.

“When the light is on it means they have all just come fresh off the line, so everyone can get a free donut,” one person explained.

“In South Australia you do not even ask, they just hand them over warm,” a commenter claimed.

“I thought everyone knew this,” another commented.

Krispy Kreme Australia confirms the hack on its website, writing: “If you visit us while the Hot Light is lit up, you can receive one free Original Glazed donut per person, with any purchase made.

“Please make sure you ask for your Free Original Glazed donut when making your purchase in drive thru, as you need to specifically ask the team member to ensure you receive one.”

The free Krispy Kreme donut hack has also been around in the United States for years, however, it is only available at “some stores”.
