The province releases reassessment of the current alarm level

Newfoundland and Labrador’s hospital admissions rose to 12 on Sunday, and another death from COVID-19 was recorded.

The death involved a woman in the Eastern Health region who was over 70 years old. It marks the 26th death in the province of the virus.

384 new cases were also reported yesterday. Updated figures are expected from the province at. 14.00

In the meantime, Public Health is expected to publish its assessment of the alert level status later today.

The province first went into the changed alarm level 4 on January 4 to help slow the spread of the highly contagious Omicron variant, and set January 17 as the day to review the change.

While Public Health has stated that they are looking at a number of factors in assessing the risk of COVID-19, the number of hospitalizations and deaths has been a key topic in that conversation. In the last week, the province has reported five deaths as a result of COVID-19.
