Australian star Usman Khawaja thanked captain Pat Cummins and his teammates for a moment that will define the new captain’s leadership for a long time.
As the Australians celebrated their 4-0 victory in the series, Khawaja, who is Muslim, jumped off the stage when the champagne bottles were opened.
Cummins noted that Khawaja was absent and asked the players to put the bottles away before urging Khawaja to return to the stage.
Khawaja posted footage of the moment on social media and praised his teammates for keeping him included.

“If this video does not show you that the boys have my back, I do not know what will,” Khawaja said.
“They stopped their normal champagne celebration so I could join in again. Inclusivity in the game and our values as a sport are so important.
“I feel like we’re heading in the right direction.”
It was an incredibly stylish gesture from Cummins, who has enjoyed a fantastic debut in the Test series since being named captain.

“We have a really different bunch of people and you want to celebrate it and you want to make sure everyone feels comfortable being themselves. It was just a moment,” Cummins said.
“The boys are amazing in that space. They always take care of each other. It’s a really close-knit group.
“I think one of the reasons is that there is a lot of respect and love for each other. We had to make sure our teammate was in the picture with us.”
