“Real Time” host Bill Maher returned from his holiday vacation on Friday, targeting liberals for their reactions to and handling of the coronavirus pandemic.

Along the way, the HBO host commented on the US rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, NBA player Kyrie Irving of the Brooklyn Nets and U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor.

Maher started the show’s panel debate by listing all the COVID restrictions that Britain is lifting from mask mandates to vaccine passports, saying “They are getting back to normal, we should follow this.”

U.S. Representative Ritchie Torres, DN.Y., claimed the U.S. has “gradually returned to normal” and proclaimed the Biden administration’s rollout of the vaccine, but Substack journalist Bari Weiss said she is “done with COVID.”

“We were told you get the vaccine, you get the vaccine, and you get normal again. And we’re not back to normal. And it’s ridiculous at this point,” Weiss said. “I know so many of my liberal and progressive friends are with me in this and they do not want to say it out loud because they are afraid of being called anti-vaxxed or of being called science denial or of being smeared as and Trumper.

“I’m sorry,” she continued, “but if you believe in science, you will look at the data that we did not have two years ago and you will find that fabric masks do nothing. “realize that you can show your vaccine passport at a restaurant and still be asymptomatic in wearing Omicron. And you realize, most importantly, that this will be remembered by the younger generation as a catastrophic moral crime.”

Weiss pointed to the recently announced “indeterminate” virtual learning in schools in Flint, Michigan, and the growing self-harm among young girls, arguing “that’s why we need to end” the shutdowns and declaring it a “pandemic of bureaucracy. “

Torres withdrew, emphasizing the large death toll COVID had on Americans, especially in New York City, where he comes from.

“Most New Yorkers saw a level of death and suffering that we’ve never seen in our lives, and that’s the source of the COVID concern,” Torres said. “I mean, I reject the notion that the reaction to COVID has been worse than the disease itself.”

Maher cited the number of COVID deaths by state per capita. 100,000 people, highlighting Mississippi, New Jersey and New York among the “worst” and asking “could there be two states more unequal” than West Virginia and Massachusetts, which were ranked No. 10 and 11th.

‘The atmosphere is just different’

He then pointed to Florida, which he called the “poster boy for keeping s — open,” which ranked No. 17, concluding, “So, New York and New Jersey did worse than Florida.”

“We made it worse because we are a densely populated hub for international travel,” Torres defended his home state.

“Florida is home to all the ancient people of America,” Maher shot back. “I was just in Florida. I’ve been there a few times since it started. The atmosphere is just different. I’m not moving to Florida. I’m not promoting Florida. I’m just saying AOC just went to Florida and had a good time. without a mask on … The atmosphere was just night and day from California, which was gloomy, and the Andromeda tribe was out there. And you went to Florida, and I’m just saying – yes, there are different factors … but basically stayed they opened and went on with life and did not make it much worse and maybe made it better. “

The HBO star revolved around vaccines, pointing out how they do not prevent disease or the spread of the disease, as they were previously announced, but can help prevent death from COVID. These facts, he says, “counteract” the argument that vaccines “protect other people.”

‘Nothing to do with science’

“That’s, I think, where Democrats look bad. Like, ‘We are the people of science,’ and so much of what they do has nothing to do with science like proposing that you wear masks outside. There are none. science in it, “Maher said. “Or that the virus can get me when I go to a restaurant, but not when I sit down. There’s so much thoughtless bureaucracy! [NBA star] Kyrie Irving can play away, but not home matches! ‘ That – it’s just stupid! “

Sotomayor slammed

He then turned to the recent Supreme Court hearing challenging the Biden administration’s vaccine mandate and how Judge Sonia Sotomayor made wild claims about COVID, such as claiming that over “100,000” children are currently in serious condition in hospitals with the disease, and that COVID was a “blood-borne virus.”

“They were all listening to NPR,” Weiss said.

“Exactly,” Maher replied. “I mean, it’s really ignorant for a Supreme Court justice. So do not be ‘We are the people who believe in science’, but you have no facts! I’ve read this before, just like 41% of Democrats last year thought that over “50% of the people who got COVID were hospitalized. That was less than 1%.”

“But I’m sorry if you watch cable news all day, right? That’s what you want to think,” Weiss said. “There’s misinformation and not just on podcasts and the internet. It’s also on cable news. I think the biggest thing for me about the Democrats is … the Democrats are supposed to be the little guy’s party … You know what the Democrats is now comfortable with or seemingly comfortable with? A two-level system where those who have can walk into a restaurant, laugh with their friends for hours, and people who serve them are masked and wearing gloves. can go, as the AOC did, at the Met Gala, while the staff in the background looked like they were in ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’. I mean, that’s it, this is a look that’s incredibly harmful to them. “

“And jobs,” Maher added. “The people with, you know, the consulting jobs, no matter what bulls — they do, they get to say at home and order the food out and make s — of Zoom, and whereas the working class people who breathe their s —- “It’s airing all day. It’s going to create class reluctance. I mean, it seems like the Liberals are always proposing sacrifices that they themselves do not have to take part in.”
