Federal prosecutors had asked a judge to sentence Fruman to more than three years in prison, in part because of the central role he should have played in the scheme.

As part of his grievance deal, Fruman admitted to asking for $ 1 million from a Russian oligarch, hiding the source of the funds through straw donors and other funds, and then contributing the money to various GOP candidates to buy influence.

Fruman’s defense attorneys had urged the judge not to include any jail time in the verdict.

Parnas was convicted by a federal jury in October last year on six counts related to the scheme and is awaiting sentencing.
