Ralf Rangnick discusses Jesse Lingard’s future ahead of the West Ham match

Ralf Rangnick is reportedly looking to sell three ‘mood killers’ at Manchester United, including Edinson Cavani.

There are still ten days before the transfer window closes and it is expected that the Red Devils will trim their inflated squad.

Jesse Lingard, who is set to leave the club as a free agent this summer, could be sold to Newcastle to avoid the player leaving for free at the end of the season.

And there are plenty of other members of the squad who have an uncertain future at Old Trafford.

Bild claims that Rangnick is trying to get rid of Paul Pogba, Anthony Martial and Cavani because the trio has too much influence in the locker room and ‘kills the mood’ in the camp.

Have your say! Has Manchester United undermined Ralf Rangnick with Anthony Martial? Tell us this.

The Uruguayan has been surpassing the requirements this season after signing a one-year extension this summer and is keen to find regular first-team football instead of watching his contract expire in six months.

Pogba is in the same situation as Cavani, but United are still hoping he will extend his stay in Manchester with a contract offer still on the table.

Martial has already expressed his desire to leave United and the feeling is mutual after Rangnick called the Frenchman out to refuse to play against Aston Villa.

The Frenchman was unexpectedly left out of the squad during a 2-2 draw at Villa Park, leaving United with just eight players on the bench.

Rangnick was asked about his absence after the match, claiming that Martial refused to make himself available for the match, but Martial hit back at the German later Saturday night, insisting that these allegations were far from the goal.

He said on Instagram: “I will never refuse to play a match for Man United.

“I’ve been here for seven years and I’ve never respected and will never respect the club and the fans.”

Rangnick was then advised to bring Martial back into the fold and called to repair his relationship with the striker due to the club’s difficulties in selling him this month.

The interim chief then explained the contradiction between him and Martial as a misunderstanding on Tuesday in an attempt to neutralize the situation.

He said: “I said everything that needs to be said about it after the match. I nominated him before the match and he was not part of the group. You can draw your own conclusions from that.

“I had a conversation with him last Sunday about all this, and from my perspective everything has been talked about, everything resolved, and there is no need to add anything on top of it.”

Rangnick did not go into detail about the communications crash and who exactly was to blame for it, but crucially he stuck to what he originally said.

But it has been revealed that Martial has been described as “not innocent”, according to The Athletic.

After Martial had fully trained, Rangnick asked to be confirmed if he could play against Villa.

But the striker is said to have taken the question as an invitation and replied that he felt unable to attend due to a knee injury, which he cited when Rangnick took over.

This was passed on to Rangnick, who interpreted this as Martial judging himself out of the game.
