The upcoming “The Gray Man” is Netflix’s most expensive film to date, the Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans-led rival assassin thriller boasting a $ 200 million + budget to date.
Now a report in Empire, and put online by BestOfChrisEvansindicates that directors Joe and Anthony Russo and their AGBO production banner have big plans for the franchise with both a prequel and sequel in the works.
The report says “Deadpool” screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are reportedly working on the script for the prequel which would focus on Evans’ villain character Lloyd Hansen. At the same time, Stephen McFeely is penning a more straightforward sequel to the main film.
Considering Netflix is famously cutting back on overspending in the wake of a tough financial quarter, the streamer has confidence in the film which is still two months away.
Ana de Armas and Rege-Jean Page co-star in the movie in which Gosling plays an elite cloak-and-dagger CIA operative who accidentally uncovers hidden agency secrets. He finds himself tangled in an international conspiracy, as an unhinged former colleague (Evans) puts a bounty on his head.
Jessica Henwick, Wagner Moura, Billy Bob Thornton, Alfre Woodard, Callan Mulvey, Robert Kazinsky, Michael Gandolfini and Julia Butters star.
“The Gray Man” will open in limited theatrical release on July 15th before dropping on July 22nd on Netflix.
