A lot of the PS4 and PS5 games that Sony is adding to its new PlayStation Plus subscription tiers have already been free before.

Soon Sony will be launching its revamped PlayStation Plus subscription service in an attempt to better-compete with Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass and bring more subscribers into the fold. The new PlayStation Plus will offer subscribers three different tiers to choose from: PS Plus Essential, which is the service as it exists now; PS Plus Extra, which essentially combines current benefits with a slew of PS4 and PS5 games to play; and PS Plus Premium, which throws hundreds of retro games from the PS1, PS2, PSP, and PS3 libraries into the mix.

Even though the PS Plus revamp date is right around the corner, Sony has yet to provide a comprehensive list of all the games subscribers can expect to see from the service at launch. However, it has provided a sneak peek, revealing some of the games that subscribers to the new PS Plus subscription tiers will get to play. There are certainly some high profile games in the lineup that could very well make it worth the upgrade for some PlayStation gamers, but it’s been pointed out that a lot of the games have already been free through PS Plus at one point or another.

Reddit user schneper has compiled a list of the PS4 and PS5 games that will be free with PS Plus Extra and PS Plus Premium that have previously been free through the regular PS Plus program. As it turns out, a lot of the games in Sony’s initial announcement have already been free before. This means that dedicated PS Plus subscribers who make sure to claim the free games every month may have less to look forward to than newcomers to the service.

PS Plus Repeat Games List

  • Alienation
  • Batman: Arkham Knight
  • Bloodborne
  • Cities: Skylines
  • Concrete Genie
  • Control: Ultimate Edition
  • Days Gone
  • Dead Nation Apocalypse Edition
  • Destruction AllStars
  • Final Fantasy 15 Royal Edition
  • For Honor
  • God of War
  • Gravity Rush 2
  • Hollow Knight
  • Horizon Zero Dawn
  • Infamous First Light
  • Infamous Second Son
  • Knack
  • LittleBigPlanet 3
  • Resident Evil
  • Resogun
  • Shadow of the Colossus
  • Tearaway Unfolded
  • The Last Guardian
  • The Last of Us Remastered
  • The Last of Us: Left Behind
  • Tom Clancy’s The Division
  • Until Dawn
  • Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection
  • Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End
  • WipEout Omega Collection

There are a couple of caveats to point out with schneper’s initial list. For one, some of the games were free in one region but not others, like was the case with Gravity Rush 2. Gravity Rush 2 was once one of the free PS Plus games in the UK, but it was not given away for free in the US. Secondly, the list overlooks Resident Evilwhich was also free on PS Plus at one point in time.

While there are a lot of repeats in the lineup, there should also be plenty of games that fans have yet to check out, so there’s still incredible value with both PS Plus Extra and PS Plus Premium. PS Plus Premium will potentially give subscribers the most bang for their buck with the inclusion of retro PlayStation games, of which only a handful have been confirmed so far. With these new PS Plus subscription tiers set to launch next month, though, fans should have a much clearer idea of what to expect sooner rather than later.
