“They could see smoke from the distance at the local station and six appliances came to this incident.

“We had help from our colleagues across the Suffolk border and have been working with the police and ambulance service to make sure everyone was safe and out of their properties.”

There are not believed to be any injuries and everyone involved is now safe and well.

But both properties have been left with extensive damage.

Mr Smith added: “It was a really significant fire which took the best part of an hour-and-a-half to get under control.

“Crews have been working diligently and they will be on scene for a number of hours damping down any hotspots.

“We are also making sure that the neighboring properties are safe to go back into.

“At the moment we do not know the cause – we’ve got a specialist fire investigation officer on the scene.

“They’ll be working with the housing providers and also the police to make sure we do a thorough investigation to try to establish the cause.

“The crews have been absolutely magnificent and they have worked amazingly well to limit the damage.”
