Last week, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge officially opened the Glade of Light memorial to commemorate the 22 victims of the tragic suicide bombing.

During their visit, Kate Middleton broke royal tradition and hugged the grandfather, Steve Goodman, of Olivia Campbell-Hardy – one of the victims of the tragic incident.

Steve described the emotional interaction to the Daily Mirror, “We met them at the official opening. When it came to shaking hands I said ‘I do not really do that, can I have a hug?’ And Kate hugged all of us. “

He added, “Kate said it was a marvelous thing we are doing and to make sure we take time for ourselves.”

The royal couple were photographed wearing pink wrist bands in support of “Liv’s Trust,” a charity set up in honor of 15-year-old Olivia who was killed on May 22, 2017 by suicide bomber Salman Abedi.

William and Kate met with Olivia’s grandparents, Steve and Sharon Goodman, who launched the charity six months after their granddaughters tragic death.

Since 2017, Liv’s Trust has supported nearly 200 people who have a passion for music and dance, just like Olivia.

The royals proudly sported the wristbands handed to them by Olivia’s grandfather Steve, which read the trust’s motto: “We Choose Love.”

Steve, who had previously met with Prince William on the first anniversary of the attack, said the royal “knew all about Olivia.”

The Goodman’s reflected on their heartfelt experience with the Duke and Duchess saying it helped them with their grief.

In 2017, Olivia, a Manchester local, attended the Ariana Grande concert at the Manchester Arena with a friend from school, Adam Lawler. The pair were just 15 at the time.

She was tragically killed when Abedi detonated his suicide bomb from just five meters away. Lawler was injured in the attack but survived.

According to their website“Liv’s Trust has been set up to help under twenty-fives in Greater Manchester get help and receive education in music and dance.”

Steve, Olivia’s “Papa,” runs the trust alongside a group of trustees of family and friends.

“We’re starting small and we hope to be able to provide musical instruments or even a pair of dance shoes for those who need them,” Steve says of the trust.

This Sunday is the fifth anniversary of the bombing. Steve and Sharon will be marking the anniversary by hosting performances from the young people Liv’s Trust has supported.
