West Ham have been given an absolutely massive Europa League boost by Cristiano Ronaldo ahead of the season finale at Brighton.

West Ham travel to Brighton for the final game of the season on Sunday with plenty still to play for.

A win against what has become something of a bogey team for West Ham, would see David Moyes’s side finish sixth in the Premier League if Man United do not beat Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

Should Man United draw or lose and West Ham win at Brighton, it would secure back-to-back sixth place finishes for the Hammers and qualification for the Europa League again.

It would also dump the once mighty Man United into a Europa Conference League play-off in August.

West Ham are hopeful Palace, who have been a much better side under Patrick Vieira this season, can do them a favor by getting at least a draw at what promises to be a noisy Selhurst Park for the club’s final home game of the campaign.

West Ham given absolutely massive Europa League boost by Cristiano Ronaldo as Man United star is ruled out

Moyes revealed he has more or less a fully fit squad minus defenders Issa Diop and long-term absentee Angelo Ogbonna with Said Benrahma back fit.

But West Ham’s most significant injury news for the final weekend has come from the Man United camp.

The 37-year-old Portugal international, who has 24 goals this season, will play no part as Man United look to scupper West Ham’s hopes of another Europa League adventure.

Ronaldo has injured his hip and therefore will not make the game at Selhurst Park.

That will delight Moyes and West Ham but they still have to get their job done at Brighton, which is never an easy task for the Hammers.

West Ham also face the unexpected issue of new Man United boss Erik ten Hag being in attendance at Crystal Palace.

That may inspire improved performance levels from some Red Devils players looking to impress their new manager.

If West Ham win and Man United do not, the Hammers qualify automatically for the Europa League group stages.

Should West Ham end up in the Conference League, they would have to play a two-legged play-off in August for the right to make the group stage proper.
