Manchester United transfer target Darwin Nunez will ‘100 per cent’ leave Benfica this summer, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Romano told his Here We Go podcast that Nunez has made his mind up to leave the Portuguese club.

Nunez scored 34 goals for Benfica in all competitions, including the strike which knocked Erik ten Hag’s Ajax out of the Champions League.

A Bola has reported United scouted Nunez, and The Athletic claim he the Red Devils are among the front runners to sign him.

Darwin Nunez will leave ‘100 per cent’

Romano explained: “He had an incredible season. He made a decision. He’s going to leave Benfica this summer, 100 per cent.

“I see many rumors about him but I am told he is really tempted by the Premier League, he would love a Premier League move.

“This summer, lets see what happens, many clubs interested, but Manchester United discussed his name internally many times, and so I would keep the name Darwin Nunez for Manchester United, he is a player for sure, who is on the list.”

Romano’s comments contradict a claim from French outlet RMC Sport that Nunez has rejected a move to the Premier League.

Manchester United are still in with a shout of securing Nunez’s signature, if this is the route Erik ten Hag decides to go down.

The Athletic claimed last week Nunez could cost as little as £ 51 million, which would be a very good fee to get him for, if possible, but his release clause is twice the price.

If Nunez is insistent on a move, and narrows down a choice of clubs, then he will hold the cards, rather than Benfica.

Manchester United need a striker, with Edinson Cavani leaving, and Nunez is his long term replacement for Uruguay.

Another option is Lille forward Jonathan David, with CBS Sports reporting he is a player who interests Ten Hag. He was also on our list of five Nunez alternatives last week.
