New York City’s speed cameras issued over 1.2 million violations from Jan. 1, 2022, to April 26, 2022, according to city data.

STATEN ISLAND, NY – Over the first four months of the year, New York City’s school zone speed cameras issued over a million violations throughout the five boroughs, with that number likely set to increase in the coming months amid the planned expansion to 24 / 7 operation.

Earlier this month, state legislators came to an agreement on a new bill that will extend and expand the city’s speed camera program, allowing the controversial cameras to operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.
